The airflow you need depends on the room size, contamination level, and how quickly you want to clean the air. Higher airflow is better for larger spaces, heavy dust, and jobs that need faster air changes. For containment or restoration work, matching the unit to the room volume is key. If you are unsure, choose based on cubic metre coverage and required air changes per hour rather than floor area alone.

Choose HEPA only when your main concern is fine particulate such as construction dust, concrete dust, mould spores, and other airborne debris. Choose HEPA + carbon when you also need to tackle smells, smoke, fumes, VOCs, or odours. HEPA captures particles; carbon helps reduce gases and odour-causing contaminants.

For concrete dust, the best choice is typically a high-airflow air scrubber with a true HEPA filtration stage and strong pre-filtration support. Concrete dust loads filters quickly, so look for a model designed for demanding site conditions, high particle volumes, and easy filter maintenance. A unit with strong airflow and durable pre-filters will usually perform best in grinding, cutting, and polishing environments.

For mould, choose a model with true HEPA filtration to capture airborne spores. For odours, the best option is a unit configured with activated carbon filtration in addition to particle filtration. If the job involves both mould contamination and musty or persistent smells, a HEPA + carbon setup is usually the most effective solution.
